Transformative Copper Venture Set to Energize Mumbwa Region in Zambia

In a significant development poised to revitalize Central Province, a joint venture copper mine, the Kitumba Mine, is set to commence operations in Mumbwa with an initial infusion of US$500 million, promising to generate approximately 2,000 direct employment opportunities.

Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, Paul Kabuswe, unveiled this promising venture during an interview on ZNBC’s Sunday Interview program, where he underscored the transformative impact expected in the mining sector.

“Kitumba Mine, a collaborative effort between Zambian and British stakeholders, marks a turning point for the region,” Minister Kabuswe remarked.

“Despite years of legal disputes between Centrifugal and Intrepid, this Government’s intervention has facilitated collaboration. With one entity being Zambian and the other British, they are now poised to inaugurate a mine with a substantial initial investment of US$500 million, set to employ approximately 2,000 individuals in direct roles.”

Highlighting the efficacy of the government’s mining policies, Minister Kabuswe emphasized, “This exemplifies the effectiveness of our approach.

Through constructive engagement, we have fostered an environment conducive to investment and employment generation.”

Furthermore, Minister Kabuswe affirmed that the Kitumba venture would be subject to governmental oversight, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and fostering sustainable development practices.
